North Branch Arts Begins New Studio Art Program Beginning in the Winter Session
(Chicago, IL ) January 9, 2013 – North Branch Arts is pleased to announce the introduction of a Studio Art: Individualized Instruction Program coinciding with the start of the new winter session that began this week. This program, targeting students ages 10-18, encourages participants, through individual attention in a group setting, to pursue their own goals of creativity. This program allows students to focus on projects that interest them and progress at their own pace. Unlike traditional class sessions, this is a rolling program with no specific start and end date. Students are required to register for ten classes, offered for two hours on Tuesday or Thursday, that can be taken consecutively or at their convenience with missed classes being made up throughout the rolling session .
“We are excitied to bring this creative and flexible program to our community,” said Melissa Van Pelt, Executive Director of North Branch Arts. “A similar program was offered at the Village Gallery in Skokie that regrettably closed in December. We received many requests from their former students to offer a similar program and were fortunate to engage one of their former instuctors to teach one of our sessions.”
In Sudio Art, beginners will develop technical drawing skills focusing on line, value, and color, which are later utilized in the process of creating from their imagination. Early stages focus on dry materials such as charcoal and pastel, leading into more challenging media such as acrylic, ink, and watercolor. Advanced students will build upon their conceptual knowledge with challenges based on their skill set and abilities. Studio work includes, but is not limited to: portraiture, landscape, abstraction, installation, cartooning, and sequential art (comics). Students may work on individual projects, collaborate with one another or participate in all-inclusive class projects. North Branch Arts Supports Small Business Saturday
(Chicago, IL ) November 5, 2012 – In a strong show of support for promoting local businesses, North Branch Arts will hold a special kids’ Greeting Card and Gift Wrap Design Workshop on Saturday, November 24, 2012 from 1:00 – 4:00 at the art center, located at 5421 W. Devon Avenue in downtown Edgebrook.
Parents who would like to patronize their local businesses on Small Business Saturday—smack in the middle of “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday”—will be able to drop off kids (ages 5-11) during the three hour window. Designed to promote local business, this workshop enables neighbors to free up their Saturday afternoon and make their way through downtown Edgebrook, knowing their children are safe, sound and engaged in creative activities.
Watch for local business specials and make sure to take advantage of the time to have lunch with friends, luxuriate in salon services or just shop for groceries and drop off drycleaning without the extra responsibility of the kids.
North Branch Arts is proud to offer this workshop to the entire northwest side at $15 for each child, with each additional sibling at $10 each—including drinks and snacks!
